I am Sue Taylor, a member since 2007. I am a mother of three, a wife and work here in Hastings. I believe in the importance of healthy whole organic foods for me, my family and our community. Spiral Natural Foods Co-op plays an important role in our city as a store, gathering place and hub of knowledge and resources.
Alex- Policy Monitoring
Alex has a long history with cooperatives, and is looking forward to representing membership interests in promoting co-op values, local foods, and long-term viability of the store. I believe the co-ops promote strong communities and strong local economies, and are excellent business models for providing services that others cannot or will not provide. I am a student at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. My wife and I have a one year old daughter.
I am originally from Costa Rica, but have lived in Hastings the last 15 of my 21 years in Minnesota. My husband, Scott, works for the Sheriff's Office in Hastings, and we have two children: Mia (7) and Andrew (6). I got my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting at Augsburg College, and I am currently Sales Operations Manager at Avtex Solutions, a technology company. I recently earned my Health Coach Certification from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition.
Lynn- Vice President
I have been a member of Spiral since 2011 when I moved to Hastings. My reasons for supporting food co-ops include a strong belief in locally sourced, fresh, and healthy foods, and sustainable and organic/low impact farming practices. I work as a fraud investigator and have over 27 years of experience. One of my passions is training dogs to help people with disabilities.
Spencer— Education and Community Outreach
I have been a member of the Hastings Co-op/Spiral Natural Foods for many years. I moved from Colville, Washington to Hastings in 1992 with my wife, Sharon, and our three children. We are presently empty nesters, but manage to stay busy with work and family, often babysitting three of our grandchildren. Being a Board Member at Spiral Natural Foods will give me the opportunity to serve the community, support interest in high quality foods and nutritional supplements, and provide the Board with a melding of information from the natural health/scientific communities and consumers’/clients’ needs and benefits from the use of Spiral’s services.
Nikki— Owner Engagement
I have been an owner-member of Spiral Natural Foods since relocating to Minnesota a few years ago. I believe in the mission and vision of the store, and although much has changed since the late 1970s when its doors were first opened, much is still the same. The community still needs a source for healthy, organic, pesticide-free, hormone-free, preservative-free, locally produced foods of high quality and Spiral Natural Foods continues to meet that need. I am looking forward to learning what my fellow owners want and need from the store so that we can work together to ensure its strong future. In addition, I plan to focus on Spiral's role within the community in order to bolster that role and increase active participation among the owner population.
I welcome the opportunity to serve on the board for Spiral Natural Foods. I moved to Hastings in 2008, after spending most of my life in Lakeville, and Hastings feels like home to my husband and I. Currently am a Dietary Manager at Regina Hospital, and I recently earned my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics at UW-Stout. I will enjoy exploring new opportunities to expand Spiral’s membership through community involvement. I am passionate about volunteering and making a difference in my community. The mission statement of one local community service group states, “May we leave the world a better place because we lived and served within it.” This philosophy stuck with me because it resonates with my core beliefs, which are caring about my fellow friends, neighbors, and community.
